The process begins with creating a polyurethane rubber mold. A plaster casing then encases the mold which is then filled with wax to form an investment mold. The case has to cure for about two weeks. The entire assembly is heated inside the kiln, where the temperature is 300 degrees. Once the vessel is cured it is then taken to the bronze process. Bronze is poured at a temperature over 2000 degrees. After the bronze cools, the image is taken and sandblasted and the patina process begins. Patina of an acid and wax is applieapplied to the surface. This produces different chemical reactions which alter the color of the bronze to achieve the desired finish.
Artist
I have enjoyed art all of my life. My family is also active in different art forms. My mother painted beautiful watercolors well into her 90's. I have a brother and sister who excel in photograpy. Another brother is a woodcarver of ducks and birds. I have traveled and visited most of the important art museums of the world, not all, that is still my goal, but many.
I have a passion for books, and at one time owned two used bookstores with over 20,000 books in inventory. My library has over 1000 books. I mainly collect first editions and signed copies. Among my favorites are history and art books. I hope to continue making bronzes, emphasizing my love for nature and its subjects of birds, butterflies, plants and more.
I have recently engaged in art displays at a number of Wisconsin locations, Anderson Dock in Ephraim, The Art Garage in Green Bay, Peninsula Art School in Fish Creek , The Plymouth Art Gallery in Plymouth and the Cedarburg Art Museum in Cedarburg . I also have my pieces for sale at the Robert Ray Gallery in Algoma and the Margaret Lockwood Gallery in Sturgeon Bay.
